Agile Testing

What is Agile Testing?

Agile Testing is a practice following the rules and principals of agile software development.

Traditionally, the Waterfall method was used. This tended to mean testing was completed at the end.

Agile has continued testing in increments. (from start to finish)

Michael Sahota produced the below…

Key Differences

  1. In waterfall, the focus is on creating documents that capture what is needed. In Agile, the focus is on working software.

  2. In waterfall, people tend to work in sequence – like a relay race. In Agile, people collaborate- like a football team.

  3. In Agile, the focus is on working together as a team and learning how to improve. There is a different mindset or culture.

  4. In Waterfall, there is usually a messy whirlpool at then end where people abandon documentation to start figuring out how to make things work and/or what users really want.

  5. In Agile, software is delivered incrementally so it is much easier to predict delivery dates.

Scrum Methodology is a software development method using agile methods.

Obviously the way it is implemented differs from company, to company. But the usual four ceremonies are as below.

1. Daily Scrum Meeting (or stand up- short 10/15 mins)

2. Sprint Planning (1hr or so) this is to plan what can fit in each sprint/ how long it will take etc.

3. Sprint Review – this is usually at the end to document/ or demo what was implemented

4. Sprint Retrospective – This is to look at team bugs/ process issues/ how it can be done better next time

Tools & Techniques

  1. Jira

  2. Trello

  3. Microsoft Dev Ops

    1. Cases

    2. Workflow

My Trello Board

I\’ve set up a Trello board for my portfolio, and will be developing this over the coming weeks. It also helps me understand how to use Trello effectively.

Retrospectives

There are lots of different types of retrospectives (again, depending on how your company do them)

They usually discuss the below categories. And a variety of different approaches are best to keep them fresh.

There are also a number of tools that can be used for these.

I have tried Metro Retro- https://metroretro.io/ and Retrotool https://retrotool.io/
